South Shore region will receive economic boost under new law
I was pleased to join the governor and other elected officials recently at a bill signing in Michigan City for the biggest economic development effort of the 2017 session, a plan that will help residents right here in our district.
The new bipartisan law will result in coordinated economic development efforts along the South Shore Line in four counties – St. Joseph, Lake, Porter and LaPorte. Special development districts will concentrate state resources on long-term improvements along the route, including residential and commercial development areas. Best of all, the plan relies on no tax hikes.
I am confident these efforts will result in new jobs across the region, help new and existing businesses of all sizes succeed, and provide a better experience to the many residents of our district who regularly use this important transit option. In addition, I will continue to advocate for double-tracking expansion opportunities to reduce commuter times and make the line more efficient.
These improvements are the result of local and state leaders working together and are an example of what we can accomplish when we put the interests of Hoosiers first.
