IBLC to begin town halls across Indiana on June 17

IBLC, News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) will conduct a series of town hall meetings across the state this summer to give Hoosiers a chance to provide feedback on the 2017 legislative session and offer their priorities for the 2018 session starting in January.

The first of seven scheduled meetings will be June 17 at the Julia M. Carson Government Center in Indianapolis. IBLC members also will be visiting Terre Haute, Evansville, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, and Gary in town halls that will take place through the end of August.

“This is the second consecutive year that the IBLC has conducted these town halls, and we have found them to be very effective in helping us find out what the people of Indiana would like to see its Legislature do for them,” said IBLC Chairwoman, State Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis).

“At each stop, members of the IBLC will be in attendance to inform the public about the highlights and lowlights of the 2017 session, take questions about issues of concern, and begin to lay the groundwork for the IBLC’s agenda for 2018,” she continued. “We will be paying particular attention to legislation that impacts people on lower incomes and minority communities. Our town halls are free and open to everyone, and we encourage all to attend.”

Partnering with the IBLC on the town halls are the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, the Indiana State Conference of the NAACP, and the Indiana Black Expo, Inc.
