Rep. Earl Harris Jr. praises Gov. Holcomb’s plan to help East Chicago
INDIANAPOLIS – State Representative Earl Harris Jr.(D-East Chicago) issued the following statement regarding Gov. Eric Holcomb’s plan to help East Chicago:
“First of all, I am happy that the response has been to move forward with helping the area. I am also glad to hear Gov. Holcomb is stepping up and supporting East Chicago to help the community overcome this catastrophe. This lead and arsenic contamination is a horrible situation and the city’s residents are the unfortunate victims.
“I am thrilled the state is coming to our aid and I look forward to working with our governor in the future.
“In fact, I have put out an invitation for the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the members of the House Ways and Means Committee and members of the Environmental Affairs Committee to visit East Chicago. I want them to see for themselves how the area has been affected and speak to residents whose lives have been shattered. I am hopeful that I’ll receive a response soon and look forward to working with the Statehouse staff and City of East Chicago to set up this meeting.”
