Moseley, Indiana House congratulate state champion Portage bowling team
INDIANAPOLIS – Representative Chuck Moseley (D-Portage) and Indiana House members today congratulated the Portage High School girls bowling team for winning its second consecutive state championship.
The team went undefeated (11-0) in conference play before winning the sectional, regional, semi-state, and state titles. The team won the state championship title on February 2 in Anderson, Indiana.
“This team had a tremendous season, showing up to every game prepared for any challenge they faced,” Moseley said.
State champions Julia Boer, Tinley Fasel, Makayla Himden, Kayla Marr, and Lauren Smith, joined Moseley on the House floor along with their coaches Debbie Gossett and Mike Plauce and Director of Indiana Bowling Stephen Kunkel to be recognized for their achievements. State champions Jade Keller and Alyssa Unger were unable to be present at the Statehouse during the resolution.
In the championship match, Keller picked up a spare on a 6-7-9-10 split in the ninth frame to overcome a significant deficit against Huntington North High School.
Himden followed up with a strong showing in the 10th frame, and Portage defeated the Vikings 167-156. Himden also led the team with a 215 average during the championships and was selected as the mental attitude award winner.
“These young ladies are incredibly dedicated to seeing each other succeed at the sport they love,” Moseley said. “Persistence, hard work, and great leadership got them a second state title. I look forward to seeing them continue their success into the future.”
