Candelaria Reardon, Indiana House congratulate state champion Munster swim team and coach
INDIANAPOLIS – Representative Mara Candelaria Reardon (D-Munster) and Indiana House members congratulated Munster High School’s state champion boys swim team.
The Munster High School boys swim team placed first in the 2018-2019 IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving State Tournament. Coach Matt Pavlovich was named the 2019 State Coach of the Year after the team ended an impressive season by winning the state title.
“I continue to be impressed by the success of these young students,” Candelaria Reardon said. “Various members of the team broke records and were recognized as All-Americans.”
Kyle Adams was recognized as an All-American in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.95 seconds and won the state championship title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.08 seconds.
Grant Afman was recognized as an All-American in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.03 seconds and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.40 seconds.
Holden Raffin was recognized as an All-American in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:48.65. He also won third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.59.
Freshmen Griffin Poulsen and Kenny Reed showcased the potential strength of the Seahorses for future seasons with their performances. Poulsen completed the 500-yard freestyle in 4:42.30, while Reed completed the 100-yard butterfly in 52.12 seconds.
The 200-yard medley relay team, consisting of Raffin, Adams, Fenry Zhou, and Afman broke multiple records and won each member an All-American title by placing second with a time of 1:30.68 seconds.
Raffin, Reed, Justin Singh, and Afman won All-American titles during the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:06.
“I am proud to honor the Munster High School boys swim team today for their impressive season,” Candelaria Reardon said. “This season is a result of the hard work, dedication, skill, and talent these student athletes have put in every day. I have no doubt that the future is bright for these Munster Seahorses.”
