Klinker celebrates the passage of the Transition to Teaching bill from the House
Today, Jan. 23, House Bill 1042 passed in the House of Representatives and goes to the Senate for consideration. State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) released the following statement as a co-author of the bill:
“This program is vital to the academic success of our youth, and it encourages individuals to become teachers. Individuals with any prior degree – whether it’s in history, math or even philosophy – could apply for this scholarship program to obtain their teaching license. Many individuals consider paying for a second degree as a barrier to teaching due to the high costs of higher education.
“The Transition to Teaching program is a pathway for people to become teachers while receiving grants to mitigate the price of tuition. This program has been so popular that we haven't been able to properly support all the applicants. The passage of this bill will expand the funding available to those who are interested. This is a positive step forward for our teachers, our education system, Hoosier children and our communities throughout Indiana.”
