IBLC Calls for an End to Violence
INDIANAPOLIS—Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) Chairman State Senator Lonnie M. Randolph (D-East Chicago) today issued the following statement in response to the recent shootings in St. Paul, MN, Baton Rouge, LA and Dallas, Texas:
The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus members would like to extend our prayers to the families of those whose lives have been lost in recent days due to overaggressive police officers, as well as to the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We cannot let any of these lives be lost in vain. We must take action to prevent this senseless cycle of violence that has taken hold in our society. We do not want to live in a society where being killed by overly aggressive policing is a normal occurrence. Nor do we want to see our world taken over by those who feel they can kill police indiscriminately. We need to come together as a state and begin to have productive conversations with community leaders and law enforcement authorities in order to develop policies that would prevent such senseless and premature deaths from occurring. The future of our country is at risk!
