Fort Wayne House Democrats vote to send public retirees, including teachers, a 13th check this year
House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) and State Rep. Kyle Miller (D-Fort Wayne) today voted to send public retirees a 13th check this year. After today’s vote, House Bill 1004 has passed the House of Representatives and is heading to the Senate for consideration.
GiaQuinta and Miller released the following statements celebrating the bill’s passage:
“I am proud that we were able to pass one of Indiana House Democrats' key Economic Freedom Agenda priorities out of the House today by voting to send public retirees a 13th check this year,” GiaQuinta said. “It's too expensive to be a Hoosier, and we need to send retirees on fixed incomes some extra help.”
“The passage of this bill renews our promise to state retirees,” Miller said. “As a member of the Pension Management Oversight Committee, I know how important a 13th check is to so many of our seniors. Our retirees worked their entire adult lives and paid their dues to their communities, and this legislation is the least that we in the General Assembly can do to help them maintain a quality of life.”
