Campbell offers support to Hoosier Israeli and Palestinian communities during this time of fear, confusion and mourning
State Rep. Chris Campbell (D-West Lafayette) released the following statement of support in the wake of the current war in Israel:
“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who have been affected by this ongoing conflict. The Israeli and Palestinian communities have experienced profound loss this past week. This is an international conflict, but I know that many individuals in our community have close ties to the region. West Lafayette has always valued the voices and passion of our Jewish and Palestinian communities, and this will not change.
“My heart is broken from the innocent lives lost from this conflict. For those of you who have lost family and loved ones, I wish you safety and peace as you mourn. I hope you understand that you will always have the support of our community. Terrorism and war are not the solution; this conflict has hurt both innocent Israelis and Palestinians. I hope that our global leaders will listen to our calls for peace and our calls for an end to the bloodshed.
“Hamas is a terrorist organization that does not represent the desires and heart of the Palestinian people. Terrorism has no justification or legitimacy. In turn, I feel for the Palestinian people in Gaza and Israeli civilians who are bearing the militant repercussions of Hamas’ actions. As we mourn this tragedy, let us stand with each other in our grief.
“As we live in this period of uncertainty, we must remember the lives of those we have lost. It’s important we keep our neighbors close and continue to work towards peace.”
