Bauer votes to send public retirees, including teachers, a 13th check this year

State Rep. Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend) today voted to send public retirees a 13th check this year. After today’s vote, House Bill 1004 has passed the House of Representatives and is heading to the Senate for consideration. 

Bauer released the following statement celebrating the bill’s passage:  

“Last year was the first year since 1985 that retirees were not given a 13th check. Our public retirees were abandoned in the 2023 Republican budget.

“We made a promise to support those who spent their careers supporting the state of Indiana. That promise was broken last year when the Republicans eliminated this vital cost of living adjustment from the state budget despite repeated efforts from Democrats to put it back in. 

“I am glad to see that we are now making good on that broken promise and once again supporting our public retirees as the house passed House Bill 1004.”
