Austin celebrates 4-H Day at Statehouse with over 100 students from around state
INDIANAPOLIS - State Representative Terri Austin (D-Anderson) today welcomed over one hundred students from across Indiana to the Indiana Statehouse for 4-H Day.
“It is once again an honor to welcome so many young, emerging leaders in agriculture to the Statehouse for the annual 4-H Day,” Austin said. “It was an amazing opportunity for many young Hoosiers to learn more about the legislative process and meet with their local representatives. I look forward to seeing several of these young leaders back at the Statehouse in the coming years.”
Students also had the chance to meet Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Agriculture Suzanne Crouch, House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee Chairman State Representative Don Lehe (R-Brookston) and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg).
“It is inspiring to see young Hoosiers get involved in 4-H, which is one of the largest youth development programs in the nation,” Crouch said. “The program offers our young people the opportunity to learn about Indiana traditions, while building stronger relationships between children and their families. 4-H continues to put children on a path of leadership and I was honored to see so many future Hoosier leaders at the Statehouse.”
Three students from Madison County joined in the festivities. Overall, students from nearly three dozen Hoosier counties traveled to the Statehouse.
After welcoming festivities, Austin presented House Resolution 10, recognizing Indiana 4-H and all of 4-H's work to advance positive youth development in the state.
“I was pleased to author House Resolution 10,” Austin said. “Indiana 4-H makes many meaningful contributions to our state, and this resolution recognizes their achievements in developing the next generation of agricultural leaders in Indiana. Their leadership is a large reason why Indiana is consistently ranked as one of the top agricultural states each year.”
HR 10 passed the House by voice vote on Wednesday, January 26.
