INDIANAPOLIS – State Representative Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend) was selected as the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) 2022 Indiana State Lead, a nonpartisan team of legislators across 30 states. This role requires leadership within the caucus, promoting sound environmental policy and identifying new environmental champions.

“Indiana is known nationwide for its poor environmental rankings, leading the nation in the highest level of toxic chemical releases, with the majority of contamination in Northwest Indiana,” Bauer said.

“With the House Environmental Affairs Committee only meeting to hear one House bill this session, it is important to collaborate with our neighboring leads to ensure we aren’t leaving residents behind.

“In order to change this, and to promote the health and wellbeing of our environment and residents, I welcome collaboration on creative solutions to address our state’s most pressing problems – like ensuring we have safe drinking water, protecting and preserving our natural resources and addressing the looming threat of climate change that threatens the livelihood of generational farmers and the wellbeing of our future leaders.

“I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to enact responsible environmental legislation in the state of Indiana, and working with the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators to advance these policies, so that Indiana remains an attractive place to live, work and raise a family.”
