Summers cohosts black maternal mortality town hall with Indiana Minority Health Coalition
State Representative Vanessa Summers (D-Indianapolis) will cohost a town hall meeting about black maternal mortality with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition on Monday, September 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Indiana Interchurch Center, Krannert Hall 2nd Floor, 1100 W. 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN.
The town hall meeting will focus on the public health crisis facing black women in Indiana who are dying at an alarming rate within one year after giving birth.
“This is an important discussion that we need to have in Indiana,” said Summers.
“Black women are dying at an alarming rate in our state and across the country after giving birth,” she continued.
“I hope to take away ideas from this discussion to help address this issue in my role as a member of the Indiana General Assembly.”
The discussion will be moderated by Karen Vaughn, Radio Personality, 106.7 WTLC and feature remarks from:
- Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Illinois Congressional District 2
- State Representative Vanessa Summer, House District 99
- Doctor Virginia Caine, Director of the Marion County Public Health Department
- Arline Geronimus, Researcher, University of Michigan School of Public Health
