State Rep. Matt Pierce named to study committees for 2018 legislative interim
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Matt Pierce (D-Bloomington) has been appointed to several legislative study committees that will meet in the coming months.
Pierce will be a member of the Interim Study Committee on Corrections & Criminal Code; the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications; the Judicial Technology Oversight Committee; the Lewis & Clark Expedition Commission; and the Oral History Project Advisory Commission.
The Interim Study Committee on Corrections & Criminal Code will look at current trends concerning criminal behavior, sentencing, and incarceration. In addition, human trafficking issues will be studied as will bias crimes.
The Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications will review the enforcement of the Indiana Telephone Solicitation Act, the regulation of automatic dialing machines and how updated technology is affecting cyber-security, robocalls and telephone solicitation.
The Judicial Technology Oversight Committee will continue its study of information technology applications for the state’s judicial system as well as develop a long-range strategy for technology and automation. The committee will then make recommendations to the Indiana Supreme Court about implementation of policies, rules and standards in order to make the most effective use of technology and automation in Indiana’s courts.
The Lewis & Clark Expedition Commission duties include educating Indiana citizens about the state’s important role in the Lewis & Clark Expedition as well as assisting in the planning and implementation of events commemorating the expedition’s bicentennial.
The Oral History Project Advisory Commission oversees the historical bureau’s project to establish and maintain an oral history of the Indiana General Assembly.
