Smith to participate in Indiana School Boards Association Education Committee Leaders panel
INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) today announced his participation in the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) Education Committee Leaders Panel. Smith will join a bipartisan group of legislators to discuss pending education legislation and the state of K-12 education in Indiana on Tuesday, February 15 at 11 A.M. ET at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.
“This panel is another great opportunity to discuss legislation pertaining to K-12 education in our state,” Smith said. “As an educator of over 40 years, I’ve dedicated my life to making sure that every child in every zip code has the resources and ability to thrive in the classroom and beyond.
“We must continue to spread the word about the detrimental impacts that proposals to censor the teaching of history and limit free speech would have on our students and educators if they become law. We need to oppose the dangerous legislation proposed this session with every tool at our disposal and end the attacks on teachers and Hoosier public education.”
