State Rep. Chris Campbell calls for Purdue to take action following officer investigation
INDIANAPOLIS – State Representative Chris Campbell (D-West Lafayette) today released the following statement regarding the alleged use of excessive force by a Purdue University Police officer against Purdue student, Adonis Tuggler:
“I am very concerned and disturbed by the video of a Purdue student being held in a chokehold, especially after the passage of legislation last year to ban chokeholds in certain situations. I continue to have questions about the details of this incident and support a full investigation.
“I support the students who gathered at Thursday night’s town hall to call on Purdue University to address concerns and take serious action in response to this event. No student should feel unsafe or experience fear on campus, especially by the hands of those who are tasked with providing a safe environment.
“I encourage local officials to take swift action to make changes that would give students, families and the community the peace of mind that Purdue students are heard and protected.
“I remain hopeful that moving forward there will be accountability and justice in this case. I will continue to monitor the situation and look forward to the findings of the Purdue University Police Department's investigation into their officer's conduct.”
