Scholarships for public safety volunteers
STATEHOUSE – If you are a public safety volunteer in Indiana planning to pursue higher education opportunities at an Indiana college or university, you may be eligible for a higher-education scholarship of up to $2,000.
The Indiana Homeland Security Foundation is now accepting applications for nine Secure Indiana Scholarship awards for undergraduate students who attend an Indiana college and who have volunteered for local public safety organizations such as a fire department, law enforcement or emergency management agency, or emergency medical service organization.
The scholarship application deadline is Nov. 26; awards will be announced in mid-April, 2014.
Eligible scholarship applicants must meet the following initial qualifications:
attends (or plans to attend) an accredited Indiana college;
has a grade point average of 2.8 or higher (on a 4.0 scale); and
volunteers at a public safety organization recognized by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Council Coordinator.
Full-time students carrying at least 12 credit hours are eligible for a $2,000 Secure Indiana Scholarship, while part-time students carrying at least 6 credit hours are eligible for a $1,000 award.
