RFK assassination commemoration planned for June 6

STATEHOUSE – The 46th anniversary of U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination will be remembered in a special ceremony on Friday, June 6, at the Landmark for Peace Memorial inside Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 17th and Broadway, in Indianapolis.

This is the second year for the remembrance by the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative, the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, the Indiana Christian Leadership Conference, the City of Indianapolis, Indy Parks and Recreation, Kroger, Pacers Sports and Entertainment, and Radio One. The theme for this year’s program is “A Dedication to Life, Love and Justice between Fellow Human Beings: Let’s Make Summer 2014 Safe for Our Youth.”

The event, featuring community leaders and music, will begin at 5:15 p.m. and be completed by 6 p.m.

The ceremony is a companion event to the annual April 4th program commemorating the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
