In Indiana, the Republican Party will weaponize outrage around 'socialism' while engaging in it for the state's wealthiest. An updated budget proposal released today expands school voucher opportunities for a household of four making approximately $250,000 yearly, nearly 400% more than the federal poverty level. Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) released the following statement on voucher expansions.
“At the beginning of session, I called for a hand up for all Hoosiers,” GiaQuinta said. “This budget is a handout for the state's wealthiest families and individuals. Most people think that state subsidies go to the poor, but in the GOP supermajority they go to top-earners.”
