Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon elected chair of the Indiana House Democratic Caucus
INDIANAPOLIS - Members of the Indiana House Democratic Caucus met at the Statehouse to organize following the Nov. 6, 2018, election, electing State Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon of Munster as their caucus chair.
As caucus chair, Rep. Candelaria Reardon will administer a variety of processes that help members of the caucus meet their legislative responsibilities.
Elected to the Indiana General Assembly in 2006, Mara Candelaria Reardon was the first Latina elected to the Indiana House of Representatives. She serves the citizens of Indiana House District 12, which encompasses all of Munster, all of Highland, and parts of Griffith and Hammond.
Born in East Chicago, she comes from a family of community activists and public servants. Her introduction to public service began while working for U.S. Congressman Pete Visclosky as a Federal Projects Coordinator. She also previously served as executive director of the Lake County Drug-Free Alliance.
During her time in the House of Representatives, Candelaria Reardon has served on the Ways and Means, Education, Environmental Affairs, Government and Regulatory Reform, and Small Business and Economic Development committees, specializing in budget and fiscal issues.
