Rep. Carey Hamilton issues statement on vote in support of solar industry
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Carey Hamilton (D-Indianapolis) issued the statement below following passage of Senate Bill 309 last night:
On Tuesday, April 4, I voted against Senate Bill 309 – the legislation designed to end the net metering of solar energy in Indiana. The bill passed out of the House on a vote of 56-43 and may soon be on its way to the Governor for final approval.
As an environmental professional who has dedicated her career outside the Statehouse to incentivizing economic activity that supports a healthy environment, I am extremely disappointed that lawmakers are sending a signal that, in Indiana, the solar industry is less welcome today than it was yesterday.
This legislation generated a tremendous level of opposition from my constituents. Countless residents registered their concerns through personal conversations at town halls, phone calls, letters, e-mails and social media. These voters support solar in our state, as well as the growth in small businesses and green jobs that it fosters.
