Pryor named 2024 Vital Voices Global Fellow

State Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis) has been named a Vital Voices Global Fellow as part of the Public Leadership pillar of the program after receiving an invitation to apply last month. Vital Voices Global Partnership connects women from around the world to exchange ideas, foster a collaborative network and develop skills and knowledge across industries and cultures. This year, Vital Voices launched a Global Fellowship program to further support women driving change throughout the world. The inaugural 2024 Global Fellowship cohort includes 28 women politicians and 25 women social entrepreneurs from 39 countries across 5 continents. Rep. Pryor is one of three women selected from the United States.

Among the members of this program are CEOs of international companies, founders of organizations and public officials in various levels of government in their countries. This fellowship focuses on bringing women together to foster collaboration and harness the collective potential of women in leadership positions. 

 This fellowship was created to target the gender gap in leadership in both business and government. According to the United Nations, women make up only 35.5 percent of local governments worldwide and only six percent of heads of government. 

“I am honored to be part of the 2024 Vital Voices Global Fellowship alongside some of the best and brightest female leaders across the world,” Pryor said.

“The aspect of this program that I am most excited about is to learn from women dedicated to making meaningful change in issue areas that disproportionately impact women and girls. While many of these issues have aspects unique to a specific country, the underlying problems and solutions can be applied universally. I am eager for the opportunity to build on the experiences of leaders in other nations to uplift women right here in Indiana.

“We live in a global economy, and it is essential for leaders at every level to collaborate with people around the world. The Vital Voices Global Fellowship will allow me to help bolster Indiana’s standing on the world stage by creating relationships with leaders in nations across the globe.

“I look forward to bringing the experience and knowledge I gain from this fellowship back to the Indiana General Assembly as I fight to improve the lives of Hoosier women and girls.”
