Porter thanks veterans and active-duty members for their sacrifices
State Rep. Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement for Veterans Day:
“This Monday, we honor our veterans who have answered the call and volunteered for military service. Our military men and women are an example of unwavering dedication to the public, their communities and their loved ones. They chose to leave their lives behind to protect and serve their families and children. Our freedoms and our rights are never guaranteed. We can vote because servicemen and women have put their bodies and lives on the front line. Our community and our state draw its strength and sense of leadership from our veterans.
“I’d also like to thank our military families who have sacrificed too. It’s not easy to be a military spouse, child or parent. There’s a lot of uncertainty and a lot of worry and fear that comes with having a family member at base or overseas. We are able to serve as policy makers because of veteran’s military service and their families' sacrifice.
“I encourage Hoosier families to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen and women this upcoming week. Veterans Day is a day of solemn respect for those who gave their lives, and those who continue to answer the call. I want to extend my gratitude to our nation's veterans. I am grateful to our military families in Indiana and throughout the globe. May God continue to bless the military and their families.
