Porter statement on the passing of State Sen. Jean Breaux
State Rep. Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement mourning State Sen. Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis):
“I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my longtime friend, State Sen. Jean Breaux. She was an incredible public servant for Indianapolis, and her efforts to improve health disparities were second to no one. Jean answered the call to advocacy, and she fought tirelessly for equitable access to care for black mothers and Hoosier women. She was a pillar in the Black community, and she was a constant voice for the voiceless.
“I had the honor of serving with Jean for 18 years. She blessed the Statehouse with her passion, with her light and with her never-ending laughs. Jean could always turn any situation into a room full of laughter. One of my greatest joys as a legislator was to watch Jean follow in the footsteps of her mother, State Sen. Billie Breaux. Everyone in Indiana has benefited from Jean’s work even if they didn’t know it.
“She’s moved on to a better place, but I will still miss her dearly. The grief we feel is evidence of the profound impact she had on her friends, family and the city of Indianapolis. Her mother, Billie, and other family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish them peace and love during this heartbreaking time.”
