Porter announces interim study committee assignments in preparation for the 2021 legislative session
INDIANAPOLIS – State Representative Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) today announced that he has been selected to serve on five interim study committees in preparation for the 2021 legislative session. Last month, the Legislative Council assigned study topics to each of the interim study committees. Interim study committees give lawmakers the opportunity to conduct hearings, participate in debates and take part in discussions with constituents on important issues facing Hoosiers that were identified in the previous legislative session.
Porter will serve on the following: Budget Committee; Audit and Financial Reporting Subcommittee of the Legislative Council; Interim Study Committee on Fiscal Policy, Public Highway Enterprise Review Board; and State Fair Advisory Committee.
“Interim study committees are a critical component of our part-time legislature,” Porter said. “It's our time to go in-depth on the important issues facing our constituents, districts, and state.
“I wasn't shy in expressing my disappointment with the 2020 legislative session ending with little to no investment in the human capital of our state,” Porter continued. “Hard working Hoosiers, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, need to be the legislative priority of 2021. I'm hoping these interim study committees will be the catalyst for the Indiana General Assembly to put them first. I look forward to serving with my colleagues for the betterment of Indiana House District 96.”
During the legislative session, Porter is the ranking Democrat on the prestigious House Ways and Means Committee; and serves as a member on two other committees: Insurance and Public Health.
