Moseley supports the United Auto Workers union strike for better contracts
Yesterday, the United Auto Workers union (UAW) announced its plans to expand its strike against three automakers. The strike started on Sept. 14 after the union was unable to reach new contract agreements with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. Some of their demands include a return to traditional pensions, the elimination of compensation tiers and the restoration of cost-of-living adjustments. State Rep. Chuck Moseley (D-Portage) released the following statement in support of the UAW:
“I wholeheartedly support the UAW’s plans to expand their strike. Automobile workers saved the industry during the 2008 recession when companies were in trouble. Now that they’re doing well, those working on the assembly lines should be doing well too. The new contracts need to reflect corporate profits through increased worker pay and benefits. The UAW has been an integral part of our success as a country and the well-being of the middle class. They’re a fantastic example of how the industrial sector supports the American dream. I look forward to seeing more progress in negotiations between the union and the three automobile manufacturers.”
