Moseley applauds Chesterton High School debate team’s victory
INDIANAPOLIS – In recognition of its state championship, the Chesterton High School Debate team was honored this week by Indiana House members in a resolution authored by State Rep. Chuck Moseley (D-Portage).
The Chesterton team recaptured the state title at the Indiana High School Forensic Association (IHSFA) Championship Tournament this year. The victory brings the total to 23 state debate championships for the Chesterton team out of a possible 31 since the state debate championships began.
“The art of debating has a long and honorable history throughout the United States and the world,” said Moseley. “The ability to speak eloquently and to affect the opinion of others is a valuable skill for the youth today and one that is prominent in Chesterton High School.”
The team scored a total of 92 points during the competition, the second highest point total ever at an IHSFA State Debate Tournament.
Moseley lauded the team for its outstanding performance and noted that the combined grade point average of the students on the debate team is 3.92. He congratulated the team on its victory and encouraged team members to continue to polish their skills in the art of public speaking.
“I am proud to recognize these impressive students in my community,” said Moseley. “They are an accomplished team with an outstanding record and will undoubtedly go on to be great future leaders in our community.”
The motion was adopted after glowing testimony from state representatives recognizing the Chesterton High School debate team for its exceptional performance.
