Money approved for planning of Purdue Calumet’s Bioscience Innovation Building
State Rep. Linda Lawson (D-Hammond) said the State Budget Committee has given its permission to begin the planning phase for the Calumet Bioscience Innovation Building on the Purdue University Northwest campus.
The committee gave its approval today during its meeting at the Statehouse.
“We approved an appropriation during the 2015 Indiana General Assembly for the planning of this facility,” explained Lawson. “Legislators understood the great importance of this project. The building will be the joint home of the College of Nursing and the Department of Biological Sciences.
“The structure will allow for shared instructional spaces that will facilitate applied research, technology-assisted learning and professional outreach to the community,” continued Lawson. “The outdated labs will be replaced with state-of-the-art equipment and the space will provide the best possible learning experience for nursing students and those in the life sciences. I offer my appreciation to the State Budget Committee for proceeding with approval of this critical planning phase of the project.”
The total cost of the building project is $40.5 million. Originally the facility would have been known as the Emerging Technologies Building, but the Purdue University Trustees renamed it the Bioscience Innovation Building to better reflect the usage of the facility.
