Klinker presents Sagamore of the Wabash to Dr. Clayton Lein
Sunday, May 12, State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) presented the founder and artistic director of the Lafayette Chamber Singers, Dr. Clayton Lein, with a Sagamore of the Wabash award. Originating in the 1940s, the Sagamore award is the highest honor a Hoosier can receive from the governor of Indiana.
Rep. Klinker released the following congratulatory statement:
“I’d like to personally extend my congratulations to Dr. Clayton Lein for receiving a Sagamore of the Wabash award. The governor bestows this prestigious award to an individual who makes significant contributions to their community and the state. I was pleased to present this award to Dr. Lien who is a close personal friend and former Purdue professor. Along with honoring Dr. Lien, I also honored his wife, Nancy, whom I awarded the Gold Seal of Indiana since she supported Dr. Lien and the Chamber Singers for over 50 years.
“As a patron and lover of the arts, Dr. Lein’s Lafayette Chamber Singers introduced a new sound to the Greater Lafayette area. He shared his love for music, chorale and performance with our community and it is something we deeply appreciate. On Sunday, I attended the Chamber Singers' final concert, and you could feel the energy in the room. Music has a way of uniting us all, and I believe Dr. Lien understands that truth. This Sagamore is a testament to his immeasurable contributions to the Tippecanoe County arts community.”
