INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House members today joined State Rep. Melanie Wright (D-Yorktown) in honoring the Frankton High School boys basketball team for winning the Class 2A state championship earlier this year.

Frankton defeated Crawford County 60-32 on March 25 to secure the school’s first state title.

Frankton’s win set a record for the largest margin of victory in a 2A championship game. Their defensive excellence was demonstrated by setting a game record of 19 steals, an all-class championship record.

All team members were honored, but special attention was paid to two players, Maurice Knight and Keegan Freestone.

Maurice Knight broke a single-season scoring record with 625 points this season. In the championship game, he scored 23 points. In the semi-state championship game, he led the team by scoring 35 points. He placed second on Frankton’s all-time scoring list with 1,313 points.

Keegan Freestone was honored with the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award in Class 2A by the Indiana High School Athletic Association executive committee for his contribution to the team. In addition to playing well, he ranks third academically in his senior class and is vice president of the National Honor Society. He is also a student council member and a Frankton Eagle mentor.

“Not only are they good on the court, but they’re good in the classroom as well,” said Wright. “They brought honor to their community by working hard and setting records the school has never seen before. When they set out to do something, they accomplish it, and I know that will continue to be true in their future endeavors.”
