Indiana House honors 40th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners
STATEHOUSE – The Indiana House of Representatives today honored the 40th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). The recognition was presented by State Rep. Robin Shackleford (D-Indianapolis).
Members of the Indiana House commended NAWBO for their diligent efforts and decades of support for women entrepreneurs and business owners.
Established in 1975, NAWBO serves as the unified voice of women business owners across the country. The association’s mission is to illuminate, transform, and harness the nation’s community of women entrepreneurs into increasingly dynamic leadership roles.
“Women business owners represent one of the fastest-growing segments of the economy,” noted Shackleford.
“There are 9.1 million firms owned by women, employing nearly 7.9 million people, and generating $1.4 trillion in sales as of 2014.
With 200 members, NAWBO’s Indianapolis Chapter is the largest of the 60 chapters across the United States. Key initiatives are diversity training, community awareness, and member-mentorship programs to advance the sustainability of their business community.
