Improved career opportunities for veterans the goal of initiative offered by State Rep. Chuck Moseley

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House members joined State Representative Chuck Moseley (D-Portage) in approving legislation to make it easier for veterans to join the conductor trainee programs throughout the state.

This resolution urges the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that requires the national Department of Veterans Affairs to certify all licensure conductor trainee programs for GI Bill benefits as prescribed by the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2010.

This resolution is crucial because Indiana’s railroads are among the top employers who hire veterans across that state.

It also requires all railroad conductor programs to be considered on-the-job training, allowing veterans to take advantage of those essential jobs.

“I believe allowing veterans the right to have on-the-job training to be a conductor and receive their GI Bill benefits is the least we can do to help and honor the men and women who served our country,” said Moseley. “The conductors are not the employees who are driving the train, but the ones who are taking your tickets and making sure everything runs smoothly.”
