IBLC welcomes State Senator La Keisha Jackson to the Indiana General Assembly
INDIANAPOLIS – Last night (April 18), La Keisha Jackson of Indianapolis was selected by precinct chairs as the Indiana State Senator for Senate District 34. Jackson will succeed State Sen. Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis), who passed away following a hard-fought health battle this March.
“The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest member of the Indiana General Assembly,” IBLC Chair Rep. Earl Harris (D-East Chicago) said. “Though Sen.-elect Jackson joins us under tragic circumstances with the passing of our dear colleague Sen. Breaux, there is no doubt in our minds that she will work tirelessly for the betterment of our state, the Democratic Caucus and the IBLC.”
Jackson has worked in community and social services for over 20 years. She has served as the Chair of the City-County Council's Municipal Corporations Committee and has worked as a business professional for over 25 years. Jackson has represented District 15 as the Indianapolis City-County Councilor since 2014.
Jackson will serve out the remainder of Sen. Breaux's term in office.
“Sen.-elect Jackson certainly has large shoes to fill, but we are confident that she will rise to the occasion. The IBLC is eager to hit the ground running and work alongside Sen.-elect Jackson to create a stronger, healthier state.”
