House endorses State Rep. Charlie Brown’s efforts to find alternative to vehicle emissions testing
INDIANAPOLIS – Members of the Indiana House of Representative unanimously passed legislation today authored by State Representative Charlie Brown (D-Gary) that seeks to find alternative methods to the emissions testing program now in effect in Northwest Indiana.
House Bill 1317 assigns the Interim Study on Roads and Transportation Committee to examine the motor vehicle inspection and maintenance programs in Lake and Porter Counties.
“This committee’s goal is to explore the possibilities and alternatives for the current programs that would satisfy regulatory requirements,” Brown said.
“This legislation simply asks the study committee to look at other options so Hoosiers in those counties won’t have to go through mandatory maintenance checks which could require them to pay a considerable amount of money,” Brown added. “Not only will this bill help the residents, but it will also improve air quality.”
The Indiana House passed House Bill 1317 with a vote of 93 to 0. This legislation will now move to the Senate for further consideration.
