GiaQuinta makes another plea for governor to protect Hoosiers from increasing COVID-19 numbers
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) released the following statement regarding Governor Holcomb's decision to remain passive against the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases across the state:
“Week after week, we have continued to see a passive response from Governor Holcomb when it comes to the persistently increasing COVID-19 cases across Indiana,” GiaQuinta said. “The governor's choice to stay the course of Stage Five, despite the surging numbers, communicates to Hoosiers that there is no cause for concern.
“Well, I'm concerned. I'm concerned that it's contributed to a number of Hoosiers being lax on mask wearing, handwashing and social distancing. Six out of the seven past days, we've seen daily counts exceed 2,000 for new positive cases in Indiana. In the past week alone, there have been 16,776 new cases, and we're far from seeing this slow down.
“These numbers don't sit well with me, and I know I'm not alone. I urge the governor to do something – anything, to address the community spread before our hospitals become overwhelmed and Hoosier lives are further disrupted.”
