Rep. Victoria Garcia Wilburn (D-Fishers) has honored the efforts of the City of Fishers to build a more disability-inclusive city and community with a resolution. Since 2016, the Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability’s March Disability Awareness Month in Fishers has championed inclusion, collaboration and acceptance for all Fishers residents.

Garcia Wilburn presented the resolution to City and Advisory Committee on Disability officials during their annual My Point of View Day on Thursday. Fellow Fishers legislators Speaker Todd Huston, Rep. Chris Jeter and Sen. Kyle Walker joined Garcia Wilburn as co-authors and co-sponsors on the resolution.

“I am proud that Fishers has come together to build a community that supports all residents,” Garcia Wilburn said. “From providing resources and advocating for disability-inclusive policies to developing educational programming like Disability Awareness Month and contributing to the Fishers ADA Transition Plan, Mayor Fadness and the Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability are leading our community to a brighter future. When all community members can ‘live life without limits,’ as the Committee states as its goal, our city will be better for it.

“It was an honor to present the city and advisory committee with this resolution alongside Speaker Todd Huston, Rep. Chris Jeter and Sen. Kyle Walker, whose leadership I hold in high regard. Of course, recognition is only part of the battle. I look forward to supporting the disability community in any way that I can at the General Assembly through legislation, and I encourage constituents to reach out to me with concerns and questions about disability community issues.”
