Garcia Wilburn celebrates $1M INDOT matching grant for Fishers’ roads and bridges
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced this week that the city of Fishers will receive $1 million in Community Crossings Matching Grants for the spring of 2023. These funds can be used to build and improve local infrastructure projects, including roads and bridges.
State Rep. Victoria Garcia Wilburn (D-Fishers) released the following statement celebrating the funding:
“Good roads, bridges and sidewalks are critical to keeping our community safe for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike,” Garcia Wilburn said. “I am grateful INDOT has awarded the city of Fishers with $1 million in 2023 Spring Community Crossing Matching Grant dollars for local infrastructure. I'm excited to see how the city puts these dollars to use in improving quality of life for our residents.
“Finally, while this funding will allow the city to make transformative one-time investments, it's also critical that we're getting a fair slice of the state's road funding pie. Last year Mayor Fadness and other Central Indiana mayors pointed to how unequitable the state's road funding formula is – it sends the most funding to parts of the state with the smallest populations. As Fishers' infrastructure continues to age, I will continue to advocate for long-term, sustained solutions to this issue so that our roads continue to serve our community well.”
