From State Rep. Matt Pierce: A first-hand look at how Indiana laws impact public schools
News & Media
Before the 2018 Legislative Session began, I visited Templeton Elementary School to shadow Erika Peek, a third grade teacher, for a day. I toured the school, spoke with students and faculty, and ate the school lunch in the cafeteria with the third graders. It was tremendously helpful for me to see firsthand and hear from others what type of impact the laws passed at the Indiana Statehouse are having in our public schools.
The visit was organized by the Indiana State Teachers Association as part of the National Education Association’s American Education Week. Classroom visits are a way to help lawmakers understand the modern classroom and the ways legislation impacts day-to-day functions for teachers and students.
