DeLaney: “This is shaping up to be a slapdash session”
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana GOP continues to stall and hide their plans to ban abortion in the state of Indiana, and perhaps return money to Hoosiers. However, the special session to legislate on these issues is only 10 days away. In response to the obvious disorganization, State Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) issued the following statement:
“Did it take the overturning of Roe v. Wade for the governor to notice our children? His comments from earlier this week, in which he conceded that many state programs are ‘in dire need of more resources, including funding,’ would indicate so.
“The General Assembly is less than two weeks away from legislating on some of the most consequential issues we’ll ever face as legislators. But there’s still no plan or even a schedule. It’s clear Republicans have no idea what they’re doing.
“I’m glad the governor has noticed that our children and families need more accessible child care and massive public health investments. Perhaps we can have a serious conversation about them instead of pushing through a half-baked plan in only two weeks.
“We must wait until January to consider these proposals. If not, this is shaping up to be a slapdash session.”
