DeLaney comments on Rokita charges
Yesterday, Sept. 19, the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission filed charges of professional misconduct against Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita. Rokita’s appearance on Fox News in July 2022 and subsequent comments to the media are the subject of the charges. The misconduct charges allege that Rokita violated rules restricting officials from making public statements about an ongoing investigation and from using “means that have no substantial purpose other than to embarrass, delay, or burden a third person.”
“These are serious charges that, if proven, amount to a clear abuse of office and conduct that injures our citizens,” Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) said. “Rokita did this in his never-ending quest for personal notoriety.
“Apparently, he was furious that the public was allowed to know about a rape and subsequent abortion involving a 10-year-old.
“In response to these serious charges, Rokita suggests that the Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission is engaging in 'intimidation.' How many institutions will Rokita be allowed to attack? He has not only raised issues about his conduct and fitness for office but has exposed how the attorney general's role may need to be restricted to prevent such events in the future.”
