Boy votes to send public retirees, including teachers, a 13th check this year
Today, Jan. 22, State Rep. Pat Boy (D-Michigan City) voted to send public retirees a 13th check this year. After today’s vote, House Bill 1004 has passed the House of Representatives and is heading to the Senate for consideration.
“I’m pleased that we passed House Bill 1004 to provide our public retirees with a 13th check,” Boy said “This is a promise that the legislature has made for over 40 years, but it was eliminated from the 2024 budget. Today, we voted to reaffirm this promise and give our Hoosiers on fixed pensions some relief.
“Some retirees live paycheck to paycheck, and they need this extra funding to cover unforeseen expenses. This is something our public retirees deserve since they’ve devoted their professional lives to the state. I believe that when you serve others you should be rewarded – the 13th check is a part of the reward. I’m thankful that the House acted in the best interest of our Hoosier retirees today.”
