Answers to common questions about Indiana’s expungement laws
STATEHOUSE – Since 2013, the Indiana State Legislature has passed laws providing a means by which individuals might expunge their conviction or have their arrest records sealed or expunged (“wiped clean”) under very specific circumstances.
Whether an individual’s records will be expunged or not depends upon the specific facts and circumstances of the crime and, possibly, one’s behavior following conviction.
To help citizens who wish to undertake this effort, the Indiana House Democratic Staff has compiled a general outline of Indiana’s expungement law through a frequently-asked-question format.
[Note: this document is NOT intended to provide legal advice but rather to provide some guidance in these matters. Individuals are highly advised to retain an attorney of their choosing in order to get their arrest records sealed or convictions expunged.]
