Andrade bill to equip law enforcement with tourniquets passes out of the House
Today, a bill authored by Rep. Mike Andrade (D-Munster) to better protect law enforcement in the line of duty passed out of the House of Representatives by a 94-0 vote. House Bill 1396 will provide bleeding control kits to law enforcement officers. This is Andrade's first authored piece of legislation to pass out of the House of Representatives.
“Being a law enforcement officer is dangerous enough without having the tools you need to take care of life-threatening injuries before help arrives,” Andrade said. “Every day, our law enforcement officers deserve to know they are equipped with the tools they need to help save a life, whether it's their life or someone else's. This bill will give them more peace of mind on the job.
“Thank you to all who testified in support of this legislation, and thank you to my co-authors, Chairman Randy Frye and Reps. Stephen Bartels and Hal Slager. In service of those who protect and serve us, I urge the Senate to take up this vital piece of legislation.”
