State Rep. Maureen Bauer

State Representative Maureen Bauer was born and raised in the same South Bend neighborhood she lives in today. The daughter of two former South Bend public school teachers and a graduate of John Adams High School and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Maureen is committed to supporting our public school teachers and students. She is currently serving on the Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) Advisory Board.

Her current legislative work at the Indiana House of Representatives includes serving as a member of the Courts and Criminal Code Committee, Environmental Affairs Committee, Judiciary Committee and Public Health Committee.

In her second term in office, Rep. Bauer successfully authored three pieces of bipartisan legislation that were signed into law. One law House Enrolled Act 1219, creates a pilot program under the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to monitor levels of toxic, man-made polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) in the blood of a thousand former and current firefighters.

Maureen has worked in sustainable agriculture including work in small vineyards and cellars in the Lake Michigan area, including the only vineyard in South Bend. She has invested in the area by starting her own business working with small vineyards and grape growers.

Rep. Bauer is currently the Co-chair of the Indiana General Assembly's Rural Caucus as well as the Co-Chair of the Indiana General Assembly’s Future Caucus. She serves as a member of the Corn Marketing Council Board of Directors and was a 2023 Great Lakes Legislative Caucus Birkholz Institute Fellow.

Maureen was the 2022 & 2024 Indiana State Lead of the National Conference of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) and received the 2024 NCEL Environmental Activism Award.

On her own time, Maureen likes to hike, travel and spend time with her family, including her five nephews and her dog, Willie.

State Rep. Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend) represents House District 6 in Northern Indiana, which includes portions of St. Joseph County.
