Moed: Working together to improve local flood control

News & Media

As I go door-to-door through Indiana House District 97, drainage and flooding concerns are frequently brought up, particularly by residents living in Mars Hill. This area has seen increased flooding and damage over the years and the rising insurance costs make it hard for property owners to keep their homes.

In response to those concerns, I worked across the aisle and with city and state leaders to pass a law that creates flood control improvement districts along the White River to help pay for much-needed projects to address these issues. It provides a long-term solution for funding construction, replacement, repair, maintenance or improvement of flood control projects within the district for up to 50 years. I was proud to be a part of the great bipartisan effort that resulted in this new law and pleased to attend the signing ceremony for this legislation held by Governor Holcomb at the Statehouse in April.

As these flood control projects are completed, it is expected that property values will rise, flood insurance premiums will be lowered and new investment will occur in our community.
