From State Rep. Clyde Kersey: Thank you for the opportunity to serve
As you may already know, the 2018 Legislative Session was my last session as your State Representative. After serving since 1996, I decided not to seek re-election this fall. My term as a representative of Indiana House District 43 will come to an end on November 6, 2018. My wife, Susie, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity we have had to serve on behalf of the people of Terre Haute and Vigo County.
I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish by working together. We expanded early education programs for our youngest learners, pursued development that resulted in good-paying jobs, and improved home health care options for senior citizens. Common-sense laws reduced prescription drug costs, kept sexual predators away from our schools and made improvements to daycare facilities. Along the way, I cast every vote with your best interests in mind.
One of the most gratifying success stories during my time at the Statehouse involved Eva Kor, our Terre Haute neighbor who survived the Holocaust. She helped me pass a law requiring all U.S. history classes in Indiana schools to teach a unit on the Holocaust. That was one of many ideas from residents here in our community that eventually made it into law.
I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and I plan to stay active in various groups, organizations and causes. There are more challenges ahead, and I guarantee Susie and I will continue working right alongside you. It’s just time for someone else to take the lead on a daily basis in Indianapolis.
