State Rep. Sue Errington advocates for the legalization of medical cannabis oil
INDIANAPOLIS — State Rep. Sue Errington (D-Muncie) has championed for the approval of medical cannabis oil during the 2016 session of the Indiana General Assembly.
Today, House members passed House Bill 1228, allowing cannabis oil to be used as a treatment option for individuals suffering from a seizure disorder.
“I am so happy to see this legislation move forward,” said Errington. “For a number of parents, whose children suffer from daily seizures, the availability of medical cannabis oil offers them the opportunity to provide relief for their children.
“While this bill will help individuals who are currently suffering from seizures, there are a number of other conditions for which medical cannabis oil can provide relief,” continued Errington. “This is a step in the right direction for Indiana as we work to provide Hoosiers with the medical treatment they need to live their healthiest life.”
The bill emphasizes the importance of continuing research about the use of cannabis oil as a treatment option, encouraging the Indiana University School of Medicine and other education institutions to conduct physician led research and clinical trials.
“This is a small program but I believe it is a good first step towards providing relief for a number of individuals who require medical cannabis oil as a part of their treatment,” said Errington. “I plan to follow this bill closely as it moves to the Senate.”
