News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. John L. Bartlett (D-Indianapolis) would like to invite veterans from across the state of Indiana to attend the seventh annual Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day on Monday, Jan. 25. Bartlett will be joined by State Senator Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) as they speak on their legislative efforts to improve the livelihoods of Hoosier veterans.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event has transitioned to a virtual experience, hosted at https://www.veteranlegislativeday.org/. No log-in or registration is required for attendance.

The live event will begin at 11 a.m. with opening remarks, a prayer and the singing of the national anthem. Bartlett, Messmer, the Legislative Council and Governor Eric Holcomb will then speak on the 2021 Legislative Session and their plans to support Hoosier veterans. The event will conclude with a rendition of Lee Greenwood's “God Bless the USA” performed by Jim Bewley.

Additionally, the event's website will host a virtual vending room where attendees can interact and connect with local organizations and groups that serve and support Hoosier veterans. Attendees will also be able to review and refer to a posted list of proposed legislation for the 2021 Legislative Session related to veterans' affairs.

Virtual watch parties have been scheduled at the following locations for those who would like to gather safely with their fellow veterans during this event:

  • DAV Hammond Chapter 17
  • DAV Elkhart Chapter 19
  • DAV Michigan City Chapter 24
  • AMVETS Post 99

“Every year I look forward to the opportunity to connect with our state's veterans and hear what they need from us as legislators,” Bartlett said.

“This year is especially important as our veterans cope with the unique challenges of this pandemic. We cannot have a one-size-fits-all response to these challenges. I am eager to hear from our veterans on their personal pandemic experiences and to work together on real legislative solutions.”

The Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day will be followed by a town hall event, also hosted on https://www.veteranlegislativeday.org/, beginning at 7 p.m.
