State Rep. Gregory W. Porter honored with 2022 INARF Legislator of the Year award
INDIANAPOLIS – Friday, Rep. Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) was honored with the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities' (INARF) 2022 Legislator of the Year Award for his advocacy on behalf of Hoosiers with disabilities.
“I'm incredibly grateful and humbled by this recognition,” said Porter. “All Hoosiers deserve to live a full, dignified public life, and I've been proud to champion legislation that supports the Hoosier disability community. It's what we need to do to be more inclusive and truly become a 21st-century society. There's still work to do be done and I will continue to advocate for all Hoosiers, regardless of their zip code or circumstances.”
Porter's advocacy for Hoosiers with disabilities includes working to get INARF a seat at the table on the Indiana 211 Advisory Board and working to include the disability services community's priorities in the state budget during the last four budget cycles.
“Representative Porter has been a vocal champion for individuals with disabilities and the provider community that supports them in living their best life. His commitment is unwavering both in his public and private life, having served on the Board of Directors for an organization that supports individuals with disabilities,” said John Barth, President/CEO of INARF.
INARF is the principal membership organization in Indiana representing providers of services to people with disabilities. Its members serve over 50,000 Indiana citizens annually and employ nearly 15,000 workers. INARF is committed to strengthening the system of services and supports for Hoosiers with disabilities.
