State Rep. Carey Hamilton stands with youth climate activists, files bills to address climate change in Indiana

News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS – Today, State Rep. Carey Hamilton (D-Indianapolis) spoke at youth climate advocacy group Confront the Climate Crisis’ 2022 legislative advocacy day. Hamilton filed House Bill 1287, which would establish the Indiana climate change mitigation and resilience commission, and House Bill 1288, which would eliminate the BMV’s supplemental fee to register an electric or hybrid vehicle.

“When our kids sound the alarm on the existential threat climate change poses, we need to listen,” Hamilton said. “It’s our duty as legislators to ensure that the Indiana our youth will inherit is a place where people can thrive – but with the trajectory we’re on with climate change, that won’t be the case. I expect my legislative colleagues to seriously consider the issues and bills raised in Confront the Climate Crisis’ agenda.

“Thank you to the leaders of Confront the Climate Crisis for blazing a path forward on climate change policy.”

In 2020, Hamilton hosted the first-ever Youth Climate Action Day at the Statehouse. She is grateful for the leaders of Confront the Climate Crisis for taking youth action to the next level with today’s inspiring event.
